What is a mashup?

A **mashup ** is a web page that uses content from more than one source to create a single new service displayed in a single graphical interface. In the context of Qlik this means we can combine the powerful Qlik Sense data modelling engine with any type of visualisation and keep our dashboards looking modern as design trends shift since we can combine the latest web technologies with Qlik. Here are some great benefits of this new approach:

  1. We can use Qlik with anything that uses open web standards
  2. We can use HTML templates that are developed for other purposes (like wordpress) to make incredibly well designed dashboards in a fraction of the time it would have taken with Qlik.
  3. We can theoretically make layouts that are mobile compatible straight away without needing multiple versions of the same QVW.
  4. We can easilly change control layout and source code using standard web development methodologies. Keeping it separate from the business of data modelling and business analysis.
  5. There are many more!

Mashups can be hosted on the internet but you can also create mashups locally to be viewed on just a single machine or inside of a private network or intranet. Arguably there are many more web developers in the world than Qlik people which means we can now reach many more capable hands with Sense.
